Should you spray Liberty today?

Each hour shades green, amber, red, or dark. Green means all six factors line up: temperature plus humidity above 150, full sun, wind in the 3–10 mph sweet spot, temperature between 60 and 85°F, and no rain inside four hours. Amber means workable but compromised — usually the temp-plus-humidity sum is between 100 and 150, or sun is partial. Red means a label violation or insufficient activity (wind over 15, rain inside the rainfast window, or temp+RH under 100). Dark hours are nighttime — glufosinate is light-activated and effectively dormant without sun.

The biggest single factor is temperature plus relative humidity. The research consensus (Coetzer 2001, Takano & Dayan 2020, Purdue Weed Science) is that the leaf surface has to stay wet long enough for the herbicide to absorb. Below 100 combined, that doesn't happen reliably. Above 150, you're in the optimal absorption window.

A weather forecast doesn't see your field. Dew, soil moisture, ruts, weed size and species, resistance pressure, prior passes, tank-mix partners, adjuvants, nozzles, pressure, sprayer speed, boom height, crop stage, and inversions are all invisible to it — and any one of them can change the outcome. A green hour is a forecast, not a recommendation. The decision to spray is yours.

The label still rules. Liberty and Liberty ULTRA both specify spraying between two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset, a minimum 15 GPA carrier volume (20 GPA in heavy weed pressure), AMS at 3 lb/A, and medium-to-coarse droplets. Always read and follow the current label.

Liberty is one of the most weather-dependent products you'll put through a sprayer. Temperature, humidity, sunlight, and wind all have to be right, and a normal weather app doesn't tell you that. This tool does.
